Hansol Paper donates 90,000 sheets of eco-friendly paper to Es Devlin's first solo show in Korea

Hansol Paper is supplying 90,000 sheets of eco-friendly paper made from 100 percent recycled pulp for the first solo exhibition in Korea by British artist Es Devlin — an effort to expand paper's role beyond printing into large-scale installation art.

The company announced Tuesday it is sponsoring the show, titled "The Third Poem: Es Devlin, Back Home," at Futura Seoul in Jongno-gu, Seoul, with 90,000 sheets of its premium eco-friendly paper, Inspir Signature Eco.

The exhibition opened Thursday and runs through Jan. 17 next year. It is the third installment of Futura Seoul's curatorial project "One Hundred Poems" and marks Devlin's first solo show in Korea. According to Futura Seoul, the exhibition features major works including "Infinite Library," "Mirror Maze," "Line of Light," "Screen Share" and "Back Home."

The paper Hansol supplied was used in the signature installation "Screen Share" — a large-scale participatory work reproducing drawings and sketches Devlin has accumulated over decades across 90,000 sheets. Visitors can pull off one of the sketches after viewing the exhibition and take it home, and the work's appearance changes as the show progresses.

Inspir Signature Eco is Hansol Paper's eco-friendly paper made entirely from recycled pulp. In this exhibition, it served not only as a material for printed matter but also as a medium that shapes the exhibition space and connects visitors to the work.

Futura Seoul also set up a separate space where visitors can experience drawing — the exhibition's central theme — firsthand. Large rolls of paper provided by Hansol Paper were installed so visitors can draw freely on them.

Es Devlin is a British artist and stage designer whose work spans performance, fine art and architecture. She has designed stages for global musicians including U2, Beyoncé and Adele, and contributed to major international events such as the closing ceremony of the 2012 London Olympics. The exhibition also includes works that use paper and books as primary materials, among them "Infinite Library," which incorporates 10,000 secondhand books.

"This collaboration is meaningful in that paper was used not merely as a printing material but as a medium that shapes artworks and spaces and draws in audience participation," a Hansol Paper official said. "We will continue to raise awareness of the value of eco-friendly paper and its new possibilities through collaborations with the arts and culture sector."
