Left vs. right: Korean boxing event to settle political divide in the ring Sept. 13

South Korea's first combat sports event themed around political ideology is set to take place Sept. 13 at the Monster House private arena in Ilsan, Gyeonggi Province.

Boxing Showdown announced Tuesday that it will host a "Left vs. Right" event at the Monster House private arena in Ilsan on Sept. 13.

The event will divide participants by political leaning — left and right — and have them compete in debates, a 10-on-10 sparring session and individual boxing bouts, all in a single day.

Veteran MMA fighter Kim Dae-sung, known for producing memorable bouts, will lead the left-wing team. Former boxing champion Kim Nam-sin, nicknamed "Sickle," will captain the right-wing side.

It is the first sports event in South Korea to use political ideology as its central theme. The combination of political debate and actual combat between the two sides is expected to draw considerable interest.

Starting at 1 p.m., the "Debate Then Punch" segment will see participants from both camps argue their positions on major political and social issues before the two sides square off in a 10-vs.-10 sparring match.

The segment is billed as the centerpiece of the event, connecting ideological clashes through debate to physical confrontation within the structured rules of sport.

The main event, beginning at 6 p.m., is the "Left vs. Right Boxing Bout," in which representatives from each side will enter the ring to fight for their camp's pride.

The headline matchups include Kim Dae-sung against Kim Nam-sin, as well as a bout between former national team boxer Lee Dong-yun and former Korean middleweight champion Lee Jun-yong.

Former MMA heavyweight champion Lim Jun-su is also preparing to compete for the left-wing team, while Yoo Seung-hwan is among those set to represent the right.

Boxing Showdown said it will release additional matchups and the final roster of participants on a rolling basis.
