Daegu Haany University pursues joint research with Mongolia's Khuvsgul Province on natural resources, traditional medicine

Daegu Haany University is moving to forge a global partnership linking Mongolia's Khuvsgul Province's abundant natural resources with the university's research capabilities in traditional Korean medicine and biotech.

University President Byun Chang-hoon and Vice President for Industry-Academia Cooperation Park Su-jin led a delegation to the Khuvsgul provincial government Wednesday, where they met with Governor Tumurbaatar to discuss joint research and industry-academia cooperation centered on the region's natural resources and medicinal plants, the university said Thursday.

The two sides agreed to identify concrete areas of collaboration, including developing pharmaceutical and functional food ingredients from medicinal plants native to the Khuvsgul region and creating eco-friendly biotech cosmetics by combining traditional Korean medicine with modern biotechnology.

They also reached a consensus on building a cooperation model that connects the region's pristine natural environment and rich natural resources with the university's research and industry-academia infrastructure, with the aim of advancing joint research and product development.

Governor Tumurbaatar expressed interest in the university's research capabilities and industry-academia cooperation framework, and proposed signing a formal MOU between the two parties.

"Combining Khuvsgul's clean natural resources with Daegu Haany University's expertise in Korean medicine and biotech research will allow us to create a new model for global cooperation," President Byun Chang-hoon said.
