Daegyeong University, North Gyeongsang IT institute sign MOU to train AI and biotech talent

Daegyeong University and the North Gyeongsang IT Convergence Industry Technology Institute signed a memorandum of understanding Wednesday to train specialists in AI and biotechnology using large-scale AI infrastructure, formally launching their industry-academia partnership.

The agreement establishes a cooperative framework to expand the regional AI ecosystem and develop expert talent in AI and biotech.

Under the partnership, the two institutions plan to combine Daegyeong University's educational capabilities in AI and biotechnology with the institute's large-scale AI infrastructure to develop practice-oriented professionals suited to industry needs.

The North Gyeongsang IT Convergence Industry Technology Institute runs a region-specific large-scale AI cloud farm project, operating infrastructure that includes 72 Nvidia H100 and H200 GPUs and 1,285 terabytes of storage. The institute plans to expand its GPU capacity to 112 units this year.

The two institutions will also link their collaboration to the Junior College Innovation Support Project and the regional talent development program known as the Anchor project.

Joint activities will include exchanging research and technical information in AI and biotech, developing curricula for specialist training, organizing academic events, seminars and guest lectures, arranging field practicums, coordinating with the Junior College Innovation Support and Anchor projects, and sharing human resources and facilities.

Yun Chil-seok, director of the North Gyeongsang IT Convergence Industry Technology Institute, said the institute's master's- and doctoral-level researchers would be able to contribute directly to developing AI and biotech curricula and providing hands-on training for students. "We will actively cooperate to nurture the specialized talent our region needs," he said.

Lee Chae-young, president of Daegyeong University, said the university has built strong specialized capabilities in AI and biotech education. "By linking the AI technology and infrastructure of the North Gyeongsang IT Convergence Industry Technology Institute with our own strengths, we will build a mutually beneficial industry-academia model in which both institutions grow together," she said.
