Suspect faces charges of breaking and entering with intent to commit rape
A delivery rider in his 20s has been sent to prosecutors in custody after allegedly returning to the home of a Vietnamese international student in the Sinchon area of Seodaemun-gu, Seoul, and attempting to sexually assault her — a residence he had visited once before on a delivery run.
According to police Friday, the Mapo Police Station sent the man, identified only as A, to prosecutors on Aug. 11 on charges of breaking and entering with intent to commit rape.
A is accused of breaking into the apartment of a Vietnamese woman in her 20s, identified as B, in the early hours of Aug. 2 and attempting to sexually assault her.
A had visited B's home about a month before the alleged attack while working as a delivery rider.
Believing B lived alone, A returned to the residence on Aug. 2. He was in plain clothes and entered through a front door that had been left open in the heat, then attempted to assault B. The attempt failed when friends of B who were inside the home immediately called police.
Officers tracked A's movements using closed-circuit television footage and arrested him on an emergency basis on Aug. 6. A court conducted a pretrial detention hearing on Aug. 8 and issued an arrest warrant.
