Gunwi-gun in Daegu said Sunday that Mayor Kim Jin-yeol attended the National Policy Briefing for Mayors and County and District Heads at Government Complex Seoul, where he shared the government's policy direction and strengthened communication and cooperation with central government officials on key regional issues.
The briefing, held Sunday, brought together mayors, county chiefs and district mayors from across the country to share the government's major policy priorities and incorporate local voices into national governance.
At the event, Kim met with the Minister of Planning and Budget to discuss key regional issues, including construction of the Daegu-North Gyeongsang new airport, and called on the government to take an active interest in and support the prompt and orderly advancement of the airport project.
He also conveyed the region's position that the airport construction is a critical project that will shape the future of not only Gunwi-gun but also Daegu and North Gyeongsang Province, urging the government to find solutions to financing challenges and move forward with the necessary procedures without delay.
"The Daegu-North Gyeongsang new airport is a core project that will create a new growth engine for Daegu and North Gyeongsang Province, not just for Gunwi-gun," Kim said. "Now is the time for practical efforts to get the project moving again — resolving issues one by one, starting with what is immediately possible."
He added that he would work closely with the government, Daegu, North Gyeongsang Province, Uiseong-gun and other relevant agencies to ensure the airport project proceeds without setbacks, so that residents who have long waited can see the change become a reality.
