Daegu Urban Development Corp. earns AA rating under national energy-saving program

Daegu Urban Development Corp. announced Tuesday that its Ansim Cheonaaram Deoyeong happy housing complex earned an AA rating under the "Energy Comma" residential building certification program run by the Korea Power Exchange, passing the assessment on July 27.

The Energy Comma program is a public participation-based energy-saving regime in which enrolled households voluntarily reduce their electricity consumption during peak demand hours at the request of the Korea Power Exchange, helping to ease strain on the grid.

Participating households accumulate mileage points based on how much electricity they save, and those points can be redeemed for gift certificates and other products.

The corporation expects that if each of the complex's 366 households reduces electricity use by an average of 100 watt-hours per month, the development could achieve annual energy savings of up to 439.2 kilowatt-hours.

That would be equivalent to cutting roughly 183 kilograms of carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions per year — the same carbon-reduction effect as planting about 27 thirty-year-old pine trees.

"This AA rating under the Energy Comma residential certification program is a meaningful achievement made possible by residents' voluntary commitment to energy conservation and their active participation," said Jeong Myeong-seop, president of Daegu Urban Development Corp.
