Dalseong-gun in Daegu announced Tuesday it is recruiting participants for a newlywed savings program that matches each couple's deposits with an equal contribution from the local government.
Under the program, newlyweds save 100,000 won ($73) a month for two years, accumulating 2.4 million won in total, which the county then matches with an additional 2.4 million won.
At maturity, participants receive 4.8 million won — combining their own deposits and the county's contribution — plus accrued interest.
Dalseong-gun signed an MOU with NH NongHyup Bank in April to ensure smooth implementation and a sound financial management framework for the program.
Enrollment runs for one month, with 1,000 couples to be accepted. Eligible applicants are newlyweds who registered their marriage on or after Jan. 1 this year.
At least one spouse must have been registered as a resident of Dalseong-gun for at least one year as of the date of the marriage registration.
Additional eligibility requirements apply, including conditions related to whether it is a first marriage, nationality and combined household income. Full details are available on the program's dedicated website.
Dalseong-gun District Mayor Choe Jae-hun said the program is "a practical support measure to help newlyweds standing at the starting line prepare for a stable future," adding that the county would "continue offering a range of tailored policies so newlyweds can build a financial foundation and put down roots in Dalseong-gun."
