KRX chairman briefs CalPERS CIO on Korean market's investment appeal
'Will keep engaging long-term investors including global pension funds'
Korea Exchange Chairman Jeong Eun-bo met with Steven Gilmore, chief investment officer of the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS) — the largest public pension fund in the United States — in Sacramento, California, on Tuesday (local time).
During the meeting, Jeong listened to Gilmore's views and areas of interest regarding the Korean capital market from the perspective of a long-term global investor. He also briefed Gilmore on the progress of capital market reforms pursued by the government and the exchange, as well as on the investment appeal of the Korean market.
Jeong traveled to the United States to host a global roadshow in New York and to sign a memorandum of understanding with the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE).
Through the MOU, the two exchanges plan to share experience and expertise accumulated through market operation and infrastructure innovation, including extended trading hours and a shortened settlement cycle (T+1).
Jeong also plans to gather views on entering the US market, fundraising and the local investment environment through a roundtable with technology companies in Silicon Valley, while surveying the latest trends in the technology industry.
"We will continue to engage long-term investors, including major global pension funds such as CalPERS, to deepen their understanding of and interest in the Korean capital market, and will actively promote the investment appeal of our market," Jeong said.
