Off-duty cop among 6 men caught in lewd act at Seoul sauna

A serving police officer caught engaging in a lewd act at a men-only sauna in Seoul's Geumcheon-gu has been summarily indicted.

The Seoul Southern District Prosecutors' Office said Tuesday it had summarily indicted a male police officer in his 50s, identified only as A, on Aug. 19 on charges of public indecency.

A is accused of committing a lewd act with five other men in the sleeping area of a sauna in Geumcheon-gu on the afternoon of Aug. 22. He was the only one arrested on the spot after fleeing when police raided the scene.

A was handed over to a police station for questioning. The remaining five men were either referred to summary trial or issued a minor-offense notification, closing their cases.

A initially denied the charges during the early stages of the investigation before later admitting to them.

A is attached to a police station in Incheon. His misconduct was reported to his home agency immediately after he was booked.

Under the detailed enforcement rules of the Police Officer Disciplinary Decree, public indecency is classified as a sex-related violation of the duty to maintain professional conduct and is subject to heavy disciplinary action.
