Man who assaulted convenience store owner turns out to be her son

A man in his 20s has been arrested on suspicion of assaulting his mother, a convenience store owner in her 60s, outside her shop in Jongno-gu, Seoul.

The Jongno Police Station said Wednesday it is investigating the man, identified only as A, on charges of assaulting a lineal ascendant and obstructing official duties.

A is accused of throwing objects and assaulting his mother outside a convenience store in Susong-dong, Jongno-gu, on Tuesday.

A had previously worked part-time at the store, which his mother owns.

He was arrested on the spot after striking officers who responded to the scene.

Police are investigating the exact circumstances of the incident and the motive behind the assault.
