South Korea sends rapid DNA analyzers, blankets to flood-hit Nepal

South Korea will send rapid DNA analyzers, blankets and other relief supplies to Nepal in the wake of devastating floods.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs told the National Assembly's Foreign Affairs and Unification Committee on Wednesday that the government had decided to provide four rapid DNA analyzers at Nepal's request.

South Korea's Korea Disaster Relief Team, which arrived in Nepal that day, brought the analyzers with them.

The devices are expected to help quickly identify victims recovered from the disaster.

The ministry also said it plans to send an additional 38,320 blankets to the Nepali government.

South Korea had earlier announced $1 million in humanitarian assistance through international organizations.

Song Seok-jun, chairman of the Foreign Affairs and Unification Committee, visited the ministry Wednesday to receive the briefing and hear updates on search operations. "Unlike other countries, we had workers on the ground supporting the construction of dams and hydroelectric power plants when this disaster struck, which is why our two sides are cooperating so closely," he said.
