Yongin mayor honors officer who saved woman's life with CPR

Yongin Special City Mayor Lee Sang-il visited the Yongin Eastern Police Station on Thursday to present a mayoral commendation to Senior Officer Kim Min-hee, who saved a citizen's life by performing CPR in the station's civil affairs office.

Unlike the usual practice of inviting honorees to a formal ceremony, the commendation was presented on-site — with the mayor traveling to the officer's workplace to personally convey the city's gratitude on behalf of its residents.

Kim had performed CPR on a woman in her 50s who collapsed in the civil affairs office of the Yongin Eastern Police Station at around 12:21 p.m. on June 22.

Kim, who was on duty at a traffic services booth, rushed over after seeing the woman suddenly complain of difficulty breathing and collapse, assessed her condition, and asked bystanders to call emergency services.

Following instructions from emergency dispatchers, Kim continued CPR for about six minutes until paramedics arrived.

Fellow officers also assisted in the rescue and transport by securing the entrance and clearing a path so paramedics could quickly reach the civil affairs office.

Thanks to Kim's swift initial response, the woman regained consciousness at the scene, was transported to a hospital for treatment, and has since made a full recovery.

Mayor Lee presented the commendation to Kim that day, expressing his gratitude. "You acted with quick thinking and kept up CPR for six full minutes — not a short time at all — and saved a precious life," he said. "Because of your courage and judgment, one citizen was able to return to her family."
