Choo Mi-ae moves to overhaul Gyeonggi Province's care services

Gyeonggi Province announced Thursday that it has launched a full restructuring of its care services.

As part of the effort, the province held the third meeting of its Special Task Force on Care System Innovation. The session focused on analyzing the current state of care programs across different age groups and their interconnections, with in-depth discussions on how to restructure them into a resident-centered care system.

The core goal of the restructuring is to build a "sustainable, resident-centered care system" — one that moves away from the fragmented delivery of services residents have experienced and instead strengthens coordination between services so people can directly feel the benefits, maximizing the overall effectiveness of care.

The overhaul is widely seen as reflecting Governor Choo Mi-ae's determination that the care safety net must not retreat or waver even amid the province's tight fiscal conditions. The province said it aims to dispel concerns about any reduction in care services and instead reform underperforming programs so that residents who truly need help receive more substantial and comprehensive support.
