The Daegu Metropolitan Council announced Thursday that Ha Jung-hwan, chair of its steering committee, has been named senior vice chair of the Korea City and Provincial Council Steering Committee Chairs Association for the first half of the 12th term.
The association is a consultative body for issues shared among city and provincial councils, with steering committee chairs from all 16 city and provincial councils nationwide as members.
Ha has served as chair of the Daegu Metropolitan Council's steering committee since the second half of the ninth term and continues in that role in the first half of the 10th term, working to strengthen the council's internal operations.
A two-term Dalseong-gun council member, Ha previously served as vice speaker in the seventh and eighth terms. On the Daegu Metropolitan Council, he served on the culture and welfare committee during the ninth term, building broad legislative experience across health, welfare, culture, sports and tourism.
He also served as deputy spokesperson for the People Power Party's central committee and as a transition committee member and spokesperson for Daegu Mayor Choo Kyung-ho's inauguration transition team, earning recognition for his political acumen and communication skills in helping stabilize the city administration from the outset of the ninth elected term and bridging relations between the administration and the council.
"I will work closely with steering committee chairs from metropolitan councils across the country to do my utmost to strengthen the authority of local councils and achieve genuine independence," Ha said.
