Korean National Police Agency issues special disciplinary alert through Sunday
A serving police officer has been arrested on charges of sexually assaulting a woman at a restaurant.
The Seoul Dongjak Police Station said Friday it had arrested and questioned Inspector A, a man in his 50s assigned to a local precinct under the jurisdiction of the Yongsan Police Station.
Inspector A is accused of forcibly making physical contact with a woman he did not know at a restaurant in Dongjak-gu, Seoul, in the early hours of Thursday. He was found to have been intoxicated at the time.
Inspector A has since been released after questioning.
Following the incident, the Yongsan Police Station placed Inspector A on standby duty.
Earlier, the Korean National Police Agency issued a special disciplinary alert on Aug. 28 to reinforce professional conduct standards, ordering staff to refrain from drinking and banning work-related gatherings through Sunday.
