Ex-AOA member Kwon Min-ah accuses older sister of embezzling 700–W800m, vows legal action

Former AOA member Kwon Min-ah has publicly accused her older sister of embezzling her money.

In an Instagram post Friday, Kwon said "only my mother remains as family to me" and alleged that her sister had stolen money from her, her mother and a friend of her mother's.

Kwon had made similar allegations against her sister in 2021, but her latest post contained more specific details. "I had known for a long time that my sister had embezzled money, but I'm the kind of person who doesn't draw a line between 'your money' and 'my money' within the family — all I needed was a sincere apology or acknowledgment if she couldn't pay it back," she wrote. "I didn't know the exact amount until about two years ago, when my mother told me the full picture."

Kwon said the total losses suffered by herself, her mother and the friend exceeded 700 million to 800 million won, including 150 million won ($110,000) documented in a loan agreement and additional amounts tied to the purchase of a vehicle worth more than 100 million won.

After learning the full extent of the situation, Kwon said she called her sister and asked her to apologize to their mother, but her sister shouted that she did not want to be contacted. Kwon said that was their last conversation and that her sister has been unreachable since.

"What I want is an apology to my mother," Kwon wrote. "If there is no intention of doing that, I will take legal action."

In 2021, Kwon had alleged that her sister managed her finances under the pretense of reducing her tax burden but that some of the money never came back, and that there were also irregularities in the purchase of a luxury vehicle registered in Kwon's name. She also claimed her sister threatened to expose her for tax evasion.

Kwon debuted with AOA in 2012 and left the group in 2019 to pursue an acting career. Last year, she alleged that fellow member Jimin had bullied her for 10 years. In the fallout, Jimin left AOA and retired from the entertainment industry.
