Mapo-gu District Mayor Yoo Dong-gyun met with a visiting delegation from Beijing's Shijingshan District at the Mapo-gu office Friday afternoon to mark the 30th anniversary of the two districts' sister-city relationship and reaffirm their commitment to friendly cooperation.
Mapo-gu and Shijingshan District established their sister-city partnership in June 1996, making Shijingshan the first sister city Mapo-gu ever designated. Over the past three decades, the two sides have built mutual trust through reciprocal delegation visits and youth soccer friendly matches, sustaining exchanges in administration, culture and sports.
Yoo welcomed the delegation, led by Kim Su-bin, chairman of the Shijingshan District Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Beijing Municipal Committee, and reflected on the shared journey of the past 30 years. The two sides then exchanged updates on each district's development and key policies, and discussed directions for future cooperation.
The delegation later visited the Mapo District Council, where members held discussions on local assembly operations and regional development policy, deepening mutual understanding between the two communities.
"Just as a true friend is one who helps in difficult times, I cannot forget how Shijingshan sent us masks during the hardships of COVID-19, and how our two cities exchanged relief supplies and shared our hearts," Yoo said. "Though the visit is brief, I hope every moment spent together in Mapo becomes a warm and joyful memory, and I wish for the friendship between our two cities to continue unchanged."
Mapo-gu and Shijingshan District plan to reaffirm their commitment to ongoing exchange and mutual development at a 30th-anniversary commemorative event to be held in Shijingshan District, Beijing, later this month.
