Gyeongbuk College sends students to Bonghwa village for rural volunteer day

Gyeongbuk College held a rural volunteer program Friday in Apdong 3-ri, Mulya-myeon, Bonghwa-gun, North Gyeongsang Province.

The event was organized as part of the Nongsimcheomsim university volunteer corps project and the Anchor Community Value Realization project, in partnership with the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation, the Korea Association of University Social Service and the Bonghwa-gun General Volunteer Center.

Twenty-one students took part — 10 from the physical therapy department, 10 from the hotel and food service department, and one from the fire safety engineering department — along with five faculty members.

Students drew on their respective fields to support residents' health and everyday safety, while also assisting with farm work, tidying the village environment and documenting the community's scenery and daily life.

The fire safety engineering student inspected aging housing in the village, checked whether fire extinguishers were on hand and assessed nighttime lighting conditions to evaluate the safety environment.

Physical therapy students measured residents' blood pressure and muscle strength and demonstrated pain-relief techniques that can be practiced in daily life.

Hotel and food service students ran a flowerpot cake-making workshop with residents, creating an opportunity for community connection.

Gyeongbuk College President Choi Jae-hyeok said the school would continue engaging with local communities through the GB University Social Volunteer Corps, spreading awareness of the value of agriculture and rural life and pursuing volunteer activities that benefit both sides.
