Korea-Japan media seminar to examine press role amid global upheaval

The Korea Press Editors' Association and the Japan Newspaper Publishers & Editors Association will jointly hold the 54th Korea-Japan Media Executives Seminar on Wednesday at the Korea Press Center in Jung-gu, Seoul.

Held under the theme "Korea-Japan cooperation and the role of the press amid a rapidly changing international order," the seminar will bring together about 30 senior editors and executives from newspapers, broadcasters and news agencies in both countries. The event serves as a forum for major media organizations from the two countries to discuss avenues for mutual cooperation and the role of journalism, and marks the first such gathering in two years since the previous edition was held in Tokyo in November 2024.

Seo Eui-dong, editorial board chief at Kyunghyang Shinmun, will lead the South Korean delegation, while Hagihara Yutaka, editorial director of the news division at TBS Television, will head the Japanese side. Gil Yun-hyung, an editorial writer at Hankyoreh, and Sato Daisuke, an editorial committee member and editorial writer at Kyodo News, will each deliver presentations.

Ahead of the seminar, a welcome reception will be held Tuesday, with Park Jong-hyun, chairman of the Korea Journalists Association, and Choi Moon-sun, chairwoman of the Korean Women Journalists Association, among those attending.
