Coupang Inc Launches Information Security Advisory Committee Led by External Experts

Coupang Inc announced Tuesday that it will operate an information security advisory committee made up of external experts from various fields, as part of efforts to strengthen the credibility of its data protection framework.

The committee is intended to help overhaul the company's internal security systems, improve public trust, and raise the level of customer protection through objective verification of its security policies.

The advisory committee comprises seven external specialists in information security, law, management and information technology.

Heo Seong-wook, chairman of the CPO Forum, and Brett Mattis, Coupang Inc's chief information security officer, will serve as co-chairs. Heo is widely regarded as an ICT and digital policy expert, having previously served as director general of network policy at the Ministry of Science and ICT and as president of the National IT Industry Promotion Agency.

The committee members appointed include Kang Yu-min, an adviser at Kim & Chang law firm; Kwak Jin, a professor at Ajou University; Kim Hyeon-gyeong, a professor at Seoul National University of Science and Technology; Ahn Jeong-ho, an attorney at law firm Sejong; Yang Je-yeol, a professor at Kyung Hee University; and Jang Hang-bae, a professor at Chung-Ang University.

The committee held its inaugural meeting Tuesday, reviewing the latest changes in laws and regulations, assessing current security threat trends, and offering recommendations on the company's security priorities and overall policies.

Coupang Inc said it plans to incorporate the committee's recommendations into its internal security policies and operational processes.

"We will continuously work to improve our security framework by drawing on the expertise and experience of these specialists," a Coupang Inc official said. "We will spare no effort to exceed global standards."
