Gangnam-gu Council's Economic and Urban Committee Chair Calls for Better Treatment of Field Workers

Song Young-gwang, chair of the Gangnam-gu Council's Economic and Urban Committee, called Tuesday for improvements to the working conditions and management systems for field workers at the Gangnam-gu district office.

Speaking at the second plenary session of the Gangnam-gu Council's 337th regular session, Song delivered a five-minute address urging the district to pay close attention and provide active support so that field workers can carry out their duties in a safe and comfortable environment.

Song said he has consistently visited road maintenance mobile units and park and green space management sites since the council opened, listening directly to workers' concerns.

"Workers who quietly protect residents' daily lives in the field must be able to work in safer and better conditions," he said, calling on the district to establish safety management measures and personnel and organizational systems that reflect the nature of field work.

He also proposed building a communication channel through which workers can freely share difficulties they encounter on the job and raise safety-related concerns.

Song said rational workload distribution and management that account for the nature and conditions of field work, along with objective evaluation criteria, must also be put in place. He stressed the need to create an organizational environment where field workers can take pride in their roles and work with stability.

"One of the reasons I have spent so long working toward becoming a district council member is my conviction and determination to work for the socially vulnerable and to firmly fix systems that are unfair and unequal," Song said.

He added: "We must listen to even the smallest voices so that those working in the field can do so in safer and better conditions. Their hard work is what keeps residents' daily lives safe and comfortable, so I ask that we work together to ensure their working environment, safety management and internal communication all run smoothly."
