'IRGC has indiscriminately targeted thousands of civilian mariners transiting regional waters'
The US military said Wednesday (local time) it sank an Iran-linked vessel in the Gulf of Oman that it determined had been surveilling and targeting American naval ships.
US Central Command announced on X, formerly Twitter, that "on Oct. 6, US forces sank an Iran-affiliated wooden vessel in the Gulf of Oman that was monitoring and targeting US Navy ships."
CENTCOM said the crew had been safely evacuated before the vessel was sunk and that repatriation procedures are underway.
However, it did not specify the nationalities of the crew members or provide details on the vessel's ties to Iran.
CENTCOM criticized the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, saying it "has continued over the past seven months to indiscriminately target not only US Navy warships but also thousands of civilian mariners transiting regional waters."
