Traditional farming activities including rice cutting and threshing held Thursday at Yangjae Stream rice paddy learning center
- Rice planted by participants in May to be harvested and donated to local welfare facilities
Gangnam-gu hosted a rice-harvesting experience event Thursday at the Yangjae Stream rice paddy learning center, drawing about 250 children and residents.
Participants used sickles to cut and thresh rice they had planted and tended in May, experiencing an urban autumn harvest firsthand. The harvested rice will be milled and donated to local welfare facilities.
"I hope this gives children a chance to experience cutting and harvesting rice in the city and learn the value of nature and farming," Gangnam-gu District Mayor Kim Hyun-ki said. "We will continue to run a variety of ecological experience programs using the natural environment of Yangjae Stream so that residents can enjoy nature close to their everyday lives."
