Three cold-weather garment types introduced ahead of winter
More than 2,000 employees voted on jacket design
GS Engineering & Construction is rolling out new field workwear ahead of winter as part of efforts to improve employee working conditions and advance its environmental, social and governance management through resource recycling.
The company announced Friday that it had introduced three new cold-weather garments — a spring-fall jacket, an autumn-winter jacket and a winter parka — following a summer workwear renewal earlier this year. The spring-fall jacket has already been distributed, with the autumn-winter jacket and winter parka to follow in sequence. The new workwear was designed with seasonal field conditions in mind, focusing on warmth, ease of movement and wearing comfort.
Employees who actually wear the garments played a central role in the selection process. The company conducted preliminary surveys and review sessions, and more than 2,000 employees participated in a vote on jacket design preferences to ensure the final choices reflected real on-site needs. A satisfaction survey covering warmth, storage and laundering convenience is planned for year-end, with results to be incorporated into future production runs.
GS Engineering & Construction is also building a resource-recycling system around the workwear transition. Usable remaining garments will be reused first, while discarded stock and recovered worn items will be compressed and processed into recycled fiber panels for use as desks, chairs and interior finishing materials. The company plans to use these panels in its corporate social contribution program — a study-room initiative for underprivileged children — and to improve community care-classroom environments.
"Field workwear is something employees wear for long hours, so both working conditions and comfort must be considered," a company official said. "We will continue to practice ESG management by linking improvements in employee working conditions with resource recycling and social contribution."
Meanwhile, GS Engineering & Construction posted consolidated sales of 2.74 trillion won ($2.04 billion) and operating profit of 95.5 billion won in the third quarter of this year.
