Michelle Wie West's LAGC faces Lydia Ko's NYGC in opener
Yun I-na to compete for Boston Common Golf
The WTGL, a new women's team golf league featuring LPGA Tour players, is set to launch its inaugural season.
The league will hold its historic first match Monday at 5 a.m. Korean Standard Time at SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. The season opener pits the Los Angeles Golf Club (LAGC), led by Michelle Wie West, against the New York Golf Club (NYGC), which counts Lydia Ko of New Zealand among its members.
The WTGL is a women's team golf league launched by TMRW Sports in partnership with the LPGA. Twenty-five world-class players — including major champions and Olympic competitors — are divided among five teams.
Yun I-na is the only South Korean player on an inaugural roster, competing for Boston Common Golf alongside Lottie Woad of England, Celine Boutier of France, Megan Khang of the United States and Iwai Chisato of Japan. Boston's first match, against the New York Golf Club, is scheduled for Nov. 30 at 3 a.m. Korean Standard Time.
The LA Golf Club, which opens the season, features Michelle Wie West, Iwai Akie of Japan and Allison Lee of the United States. The New York Golf Club fields Lydia Ko alongside Rose Zhang of the United States and Linn Grant of Sweden.
Following the opener, the LA Golf Club faces the Motor City Golf Club in its second match Wednesday at 10 a.m. Korean Standard Time. Motor City's roster includes Jeeno Thitikul of Thailand, Yin Ruoning of China and Brooke Henderson of Canada.
Each WTGL team carries five players, with three taking part in each match. The choice of which three players to deploy — and the broader team strategy — is expected to be a key factor in determining outcomes.
The regular season will follow a round-robin format, with each of the five teams playing one match against every other. The league will then hold single-elimination semifinals before a best-of-three final to crown the inaugural champion.
