A second station near Ttukseom dock planned for November
The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced Friday that it will open the Jamsil Han River Bicycle Station — located directly in front of the Han River Bus Jamsil dock — to the public starting Wednesday.
The facility serves as a rest and maintenance stop for cyclists, open to anyone from daily commuters to weekend riders enjoying the Han River paths.
Its location directly in front of the Jamsil dock lets cyclists combine river cycling with the Han River Bus water transit service. Riders who bring their bicycles aboard the Han River Bus can use the station after disembarking, while cyclists on the Han River bike path can stop at the station before boarding the ferry.
The station will operate daily from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. and is free of charge. It is equipped with bicycle repair tools and a first-aid kit for basic maintenance and emergency care, and includes a rest area where riders can take a break.
Following the Jamsil opening, the city plans to complete a second Han River Bicycle Station near the Han River Bus Ttukseom dock later this month.
To mark the opening, the Seoul Metropolitan Government will hold a cycling event at Jamsil Hangang Park on Wednesday, with 100 participants. Organized by the Seoul Metropolitan Sports Council, the event will feature bicycle maintenance workshops, safety education and group rides. Participation is free, and 100 spots are available.
The city has also been cracking down since last month on so-called "jabotobai" — illegally modified electric bicycles with speed limiters removed, or heavy motorcycle-style bikes that run primarily on motor power — riding recklessly on Han River Park cycling paths.
"The Jamsil Han River Bicycle Station is a lifestyle-oriented convenience space that connects the Han River Bus with the cycling network," said Jo Seong-ho, director of Seoul's tourism and sports bureau. "It will serve as a place of rest and a hub for leisure activities in citizens' everyday lives."
