Dalseong-gun health center wins sole Daegu nod at national oral health awards

The Dalseong-gun Public Health Center in Daegu said Sunday it received a commendation from the Minister of Health and Welfare at the ministry's "2025 Community Oral Health Project Achievement Competition" — the only Daegu institution recognized at the event.

Judges particularly praised the center for lowering barriers to care for medically underserved residents through tailored oral health programs designed around local community characteristics.

Last year, the center conducted oral examinations and preventive care across 16 sessions for more than 300 residents.

Staff also made direct visits to 11 vulnerable facilities in the district — including senior welfare centers — providing oral health education to more than 300 people and linking them on the spot to preventive treatments such as scaling and fluoride application in a one-stop service model.

To share the results of these public health efforts with all county residents, the center will hold its "81st Oral Health Day" event on Monday.

Free programs open to all age groups are planned, including child-friendly toothbrushing education for young children and professional oral consultations and checkups led by public health physicians at the Nambu Senior Welfare Center.

"We will continue to expand public health and medical infrastructure on all fronts to bridge the healthcare gap between communities and ensure that every county resident can access high-quality medical services without being left behind," said Choi Jae-hun, the Dalseong-gun county chief.
