Former Supreme Court Justice No Tae-ak reports 2.27 billion won in assets

Former Supreme Court Justice No Tae-ak, who stepped down as National Election Commission chairman following a ballot shortage during the June 3 local elections, has reported total assets of 2.27 billion won.

The Supreme Court's Public Officials Ethics Committee published asset registration records Thursday in the Official Gazette. No declared assets of 2,277,960,000 won — an increase of 41.69 million won ($1,100) from his previous disclosure in March.

An apartment in Bangbae-dong, Seocho-gu, Seoul, jointly held by No and his spouse, was valued at 1.86 billion won.

Deposits totaled 592.15 million won, comprising 405.17 million won in No's name, 171.22 million won held by his spouse, and additional deposits belonging to his children. His two sons also reported virtual assets worth 4.6 million won.

The increase in assets was attributed to savings from salary, among other factors.

No took office as NEC chairman in May 2022, appointed by then-Chief Justice Kim Myeong-su.

He retired from the Supreme Court bench in March but continued to serve as NEC chairman while confirmation hearings for his successor stalled. He resigned following the ballot shortage that marred the June 3 local elections.
