Amid a growing controversy over the location of the main government headquarters, Min Hyeong-bae, mayor-elect of the South Jeolla-Gwangju Special Metropolitan City, plans to work out of three separate offices — in Muan, Suncheon and Gwangju — on his first day in office.
Min's inaugural schedule on Tuesday begins at the South Jeolla-Gwangju Special Metropolitan City Council in Muan, South Jeolla Province, where the council's first plenary session opens at midnight. He plans to attend the session and take his oath of office there.
He will then move to the Muan office to sign the administrative handover documents and formally begin work, before heading to the eastern branch office in Suncheon to approve his first official order and hold a press briefing.
In the afternoon, Min will travel to Gwangju for a luncheon with the city council leadership, after which he and city officials plan to pay their respects at the National May 18th Democratic Cemetery.
To close out the day, Min will visit the disaster operations center and the 119 emergency dispatch center at the Gwangju office to review public safety conditions. No separate inauguration ceremony is planned.
