Yeungnam University of Science and Technology wins two prizes at Daegu startup idea competition

Yeungnam University of Science and Technology took two prizes at the 2026 Regional University Alliance Daegu Startup Idea Competition, held Tuesday at the Daegu Regional University Cooperation Center, with student teams claiming both the excellence award and the encouragement award.

The competition was co-hosted by nine universities participating in the University Startup Support Council (DRIVE) as part of the Regional Growth Talent Development System (Anchor) project: Yeungnam University of Science and Technology, Keimyung University, Kyungpook National University, Keimyung College University, Daegu Health College, Daegu Technical University, Suseong University, Youngjin College and Daegu Science University.

A total of 17 student teams from Daegu-area universities took part, presenting their startup ideas and competing on commercialization potential. Yeungnam University of Science and Technology stood out as all of its participating teams demonstrated polished concepts and practical capabilities.

The excellence award went to the university's "Lemmings" team, which drew strong marks for an electric vehicle fire prevention system designed to detect fire risks early and minimize damage.

The encouragement award went to the "ConnectLab" team, which proposed Naruna, a team workspace platform that integrates a range of collaboration tools into one unified environment.

Han Chang-woo, head of the university's startup support division, said the double win reflected "the creative ideas and pioneering spirit of our students, combined with the university's practice-oriented startup education."
