Meyle: Suspension parts top repair list for out-of-warranty imported cars

Suspension components — commonly referred to in repair shops as "undercarriage parts" — top the list of repairs sought by drivers of imported vehicles whose warranties have expired. Demand is growing not just for routine consumable replacements but for core parts directly tied to ride quality, steering stability, and noise and vibration.

German automotive parts brand Meyle said Monday that an analysis of its top-selling items in the first half of this year showed a marked rise in demand for steering and suspension parts in the out-of-warranty imported vehicle market.

Undercarriage parts, as the term is used in repair shops, refer to components beneath the vehicle that bear the body's load, absorb road impact, and help ensure stable steering and braking. As mileage accumulates, wear builds up more readily in these parts, making them a key area of replacement demand for imported vehicles past their warranty period.

Upper arms, stabilizer links, hub bearings and ball joints dominated the top-selling rankings in the first half. Upper arm components posted the highest demand, followed by stabilizer links.

The upper arm connects the vehicle body to the wheel and controls wheel movement, directly affecting steering stability, ride quality and road-tracking performance. When the part wears out, the vehicle can feel unstable while driving, and impact and noise may increase when passing over bumps.

The stabilizer link reduces body roll when a vehicle corners, helping maintain a stable driving posture by suppressing sharp lateral sway. Meyle said its HD stabilizer link showed no signs of dislocation even after one million test cycles.

Hub bearings and ball joints also ranked among the top sellers. As these parts wear, they can lead to noise, vibration, reduced steering feel and deteriorating ride quality. Both are widely regarded as representative undercarriage components that require increasing attention once a vehicle passes a certain mileage threshold.

In the imported vehicle market, a growing number of consumers are holding on to their cars after the warranty expires, driving up demand for aftermarket parts. High interest rates and rising vehicle prices are also lengthening new-car replacement cycles, contributing to expansion of the repair market.

Meyle positions itself on German engineering-based design and quality control. Its MEYLE HD lineup is a reinforced product range developed by analyzing the weaknesses of original equipment parts and structurally improving on them. The company said its control arm components use high-strength materials and an improved ball joint and bushing design to enhance durability and steering precision.

"Meyle will continue to provide parts solutions that earn greater trust in the out-of-warranty imported vehicle market."
