A 22-year-old driver struck and killed a 92-year-old pedestrian crossing a four-lane road in Gakgok-dong, Suncheon, at around 5:01 a.m. Thursday.
The victim, identified only as B, suffered severe injuries and was rushed by paramedics to a nearby hospital, where he died.
Police said the driver, identified only as A, had a blood alcohol concentration of 0.08 percent at the time of the crash — well above the legal threshold for license revocation.
Police have booked A on charges under the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Specific Crimes, including dangerous driving resulting in death. Authorities plan to seek an arrest warrant after completing their investigation into speeding and drunk driving charges.
