BBQ donates W100m to South Korea's Asian Games squad

Chicken franchise BBQ announced Friday that it has donated 100 million won ($71,300) to South Korea's national team ahead of the upcoming Asian Games.

Genesis BBQ Group presented the fund Thursday at the national team training center in Jincheon, North Chungcheong Province, ahead of the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games Media Day, wishing the squad success at the games. Genesis BBQ Group Chairman Yun Hong-geun and Korean Sport & Olympic Committee President Yoo Seung-min were among the dignitaries in attendance.

"I hope the sweat and effort poured in by the athletes representing South Korea in preparation for the Asian Games will bear great fruit," Yun said. "BBQ will cheer wholeheartedly for all athletes, hoping they finish the games without injury and can showcase the skills they have honed on the international stage."

Korean Sport & Olympic Committee President Yoo thanked the company for its continued backing. "I am grateful to Genesis BBQ Group for consistently showing attention and support for South Korea's national team athletes," he said. "We will do our utmost in preparing for the games and supporting the athletes so they can perform at their best."

BBQ has consistently supported South Korean sports. The company was named the official franchise sponsor of the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee in 2021 and has since backed Team Korea at international competitions including the Tokyo Olympics, the Beijing Winter Olympics and the Hangzhou Asian Games. At the time of the Hangzhou Asian Games in 2023, BBQ also donated 50 million won to the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee.
