Gwangyang Steelworks' Baekun Art Hall, Friday through Sunday
Gwangyang Steelworks (plant manager Ko Jae-yun) will offer free screenings of the hit film "Hope" at Baekun Art Hall in Geumho-dong from Friday through Sunday, giving employees and local residents access to one of the most talked-about films in cinemas.
The screenings, arranged in collaboration with CGV, are concentrated over the weekend — from Friday evening through Sunday — to maximize convenience for employees and community members who want to catch the latest release.
Directed by Na Hong-jin, "Hope" surpassed 4.5 million admissions within four weeks of its opening. The science-fiction film is set in a fictional port village called Hopohang near the Demilitarized Zone during the 1970s and 1980s, where residents fight to survive after a mysterious and threatening presence appears.
The film moves at a rapid pace through tense action sequences — including chase scenes and gunfights — and features strong performances from a cast that includes Hwang Jung-min, Jo In-sung and Jung Ho-yeon.
"Hope" has been officially invited to the San Sebastian International Film Festival (SSIFF), the most prestigious film festival in the Spanish-speaking world, and is set for a North America opening on Sept. 9.
Gwangyang Steelworks has also worked to improve the viewing experience at Baekun Art Hall, installing the latest Dolby audio equipment to enhance sound quality.
"Going forward, we will take the lead in planning not only films but a wide range of cultural content that reflects the interests and tastes of residents, so that more people can enjoy arts and culture in comfort," a Baekun Art Hall official said.
