Hyundai Steel, Korea Employment Agency for the Disabled team up to find suitable jobs for workers with disabilities

The Korea Employment Agency for the Disabled and Hyundai Steel have joined forces to identify jobs suited to workers with disabilities and build a more stable employment environment for them.

The agency signed a memorandum of understanding with Hyundai Steel at the steelmaker's Pangyo office on Friday to promote the employment of people with disabilities. The agreement aims to advance ESG (environmental, social and governance) management through disability-inclusive hiring and create a sustainable employment environment for workers with disabilities.

Under the MOU, the agency will identify roles within Hyundai Steel's operations that are suitable for workers with disabilities, propose employment models tailored to the company's business characteristics, recommend qualified candidates and provide vocational training support.

After hiring, the agency will monitor how new employees with disabilities adapt to their roles and provide follow-up management services to help them settle in. It also plans to connect the company with various disability employment support programs to drive actual expansion of hiring.

Hyundai Steel said it plans to use the partnership to create a work environment where employees with disabilities can fully demonstrate their capabilities and to steadily expand disability employment.

Lee Jong-seong, chairman of the Korea Employment Agency for the Disabled, said he hopes the agreement will open the door to more and better jobs for people with disabilities. "We will actively work to identify roles suited to Hyundai Steel's specific characteristics and ensure that disability employment grows in a stable and sustained way," he said.

Seo Sang-won, executive vice president and head of Hyundai Steel's management support division, said employing people with disabilities is "an important value in fulfilling our social responsibility." He added that the company would work closely with the agency to build a workplace where employees with disabilities can thrive and lead the way in expanding disability employment.
