Korea East-West Power supports vocational training for youth with borderline intelligence

Korea East-West Power Co. (president Kwon Myeong-ho) announced Monday that it has donated equipment and supplies worth 9.5 million won ($6,870) to the Hamkke Mandeuneun Maeul Social Cooperative to support vocational training for youth with borderline intelligence in Ulsan.

Borderline intelligence refers to an IQ range of 70 to 84 — below the threshold for disability registration — which means many individuals in this group are ineligible for disability welfare benefits or employment services.

Korea East-West Power has been working to support the economic independence of these young people, helping 16 of them find employment last year.

The donated items — including packaging machines, sterilizers, heat sealers, workbenches and chairs, a 3D heat-transfer printer, a cutting machine, transport carts and work uniforms — are intended for vocational training in small-batch product packaging. The youth will use the equipment to build practical skills in sorting and packaging, hygiene management, product sealing, and text and image printing.

Korea East-West Power also plans to help create a training environment tailored to the cognitive characteristics of youth with borderline intelligence, allowing them to understand work processes more easily and build skills through repetition.
