South Gyeongsang Province to repair 457 road routes ahead of chuseok

South Gyeongsang Province is launching a sweeping road maintenance campaign ahead of the chuseok holiday to repair damage from this summer's heavy rains and ensure safe, comfortable road conditions.

The province announced Friday that it will carry out an autumn road maintenance drive through Sept. 30 in coordination with its 18 cities and counties, covering 457 routes totaling 6,689 kilometers — including provincial roads, delegated national roads and municipal roads. Key tasks include repairing road surfaces damaged by August rains, clearing drainage ditches of sediment, restoring the functionality of bridges and tunnels, stabilizing slopes at risk of rockfalls and landslides, mowing roadside vegetation and removing illegally stored materials.

Particularly vulnerable sections will receive intensive safety inspections to prevent further damage. These include areas along National Road 14 in Galgot-ri, Nambu-myeon, Geoje, and the Jangseungpo district along Urban Planning Road 3-2, both of which sustained damage during heavy rains from Aug. 15 to 18. The final tally of road damage will be confirmed once data entry into the National Disaster Management Information System is complete.

After maintenance work wraps up, the province plans to conduct self-assessments and evaluations by city and county from Oct. 14 to 20, with any shortcomings to be addressed before the end of the year.

South Gyeongsang Province ranked first nationwide in the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's 2025 road maintenance evaluation and aims to use this round of work to secure the top national designation for a second consecutive year.
