LG CNS chief heads to US campuses in push for global AI talent

LG CNS CEO Hyun Shin-kyun is throwing the company's full weight behind a global hunt for AI transformation talent, personally visiting top US universities to pitch the company to graduate students.

The move comes as AI-driven digital transformation accelerates across industries and competition for future core talent intensifies.

LG CNS announced Tuesday that it held its "LG Connect N Sync" event on Wednesday and Friday (local time) at locations in San Francisco and on the US East Coast, bringing together outstanding master's and doctoral candidates from leading American universities.

Hyun attended alongside a roster of senior executives, including the heads of the AI cloud business division, human resources, technology, the AI center, and the chemicals and battery business division.

The sessions reached about 30 graduate students from Stanford University, UC Berkeley, the University of Southern California, the California Institute of Technology, the University of Texas at Austin, UC San Diego, the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, Columbia University and New York University — all pursuing degrees in AI, computer science, data science, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering or chemical engineering.

Notably, Hyun led the recruiting effort himself, presenting the company's future business direction, technology roadmap, and growth potential and vision — a sharp departure from the typical overseas campus recruiting drive, which is usually handled by HR and business-unit staff. The approach signals that the company views top-talent acquisition not merely as a hiring function but as central to its long-term corporate strategy.

As advances in AI rapidly shift the battleground of corporate competition toward technology and talent, LG CNS said the initiative is designed to get ahead of that change.

Behind Hyun's active push into US campus recruiting is LG CNS's strategic focus on AI transformation and robotics transformation as its core growth engines. Both fields demand deep expertise in AI, data and cloud technologies, and the company said it needs talent who can bridge IT and engineering knowledge to drive real-world innovation on the factory floor.

That is why the recruiting event drew not only software engineers but also students majoring in mechanical, electrical and chemical engineering. The company's vision is to go beyond mastering individual technologies and instead create tangible change by connecting AI with industrial operations. LG CNS said it plans to hire talent both at its headquarters and directly in the United States, and will expand its C&D Center (AI & Robotics Lab), established in Silicon Valley last year.

In addition, LG CNS is working to build long-term networks with top US talent and university communities. The company said it will deepen ongoing exchanges to strengthen hiring pipelines and systematically develop a global talent pool in core technology, industrial and engineering fields. It is also accelerating the recruitment of local specialists in China, Japan and other markets to support its global business expansion and research and development efforts.
