NH NongHyup Life announced Tuesday the launch of a new health insurance product covering circulatory diseases from diagnosis through treatment and rehabilitation.

The product, called "Hyeolgan Ttunttun NH Health Insurance," provides annual repeat coverage for major surgical and treatment costs associated with circulatory diseases, including thrombolysis, thrombectomy and stent insertion. Circulatory diseases are conditions affecting the organs that circulate blood and bodily fluids — including the heart, blood vessels (arteries and veins) and lymphatic vessels — with hypertension, myocardial infarction and stroke among the most common examples.

Under the comprehensive annual coverage limit of 50 million won ($36,300), key benefits include: reimbursement of 100,000 won per year for each of covered PET and CT scans (once annually each); 15 million won per year for thrombolysis and covered thrombectomy (once annually each); 8 million won per year for treatment in a general hospital intensive care unit (once annually); and 20,000 won per session for covered circulatory disease rehabilitation, up to once per day and 15 times per year.

The coverage scope has also been expanded beyond brain and heart conditions to include other circulatory diseases. Customers can choose coverage for three to five types of specific circulatory diseases depending on their needs. An optional rider allows policyholders to add a diagnosis benefit for circulatory diseases.

A simplified enrollment option is available for people with pre-existing conditions who meet certain requirements. NH NongHyup Life said it has added a new "355 Simplified Enrollment Type II" tier, which carries lower premiums than the existing "325 Simplified Enrollment Type II." Policyholders diagnosed with stroke or acute myocardial infarction may also qualify for a premium waiver.

The standard enrollment option is open to applicants from age 15, while the simplified enrollment option is available from age 20. Depending on the coverage and payment period selected, policyholders can enroll up to age 85. Renewable policies offer payment periods of 5, 10, 15 or 20 years; non-renewable policies also offer a 30-year payment option.

Customers paying monthly premiums of 30,000 won or more will receive the "NH Ansim Care Service," which provides nurse accompaniment to medical appointments, vehicle escort and care-stay support in the event of a serious illness. Existing NH NongHyup Life customers who enroll in two main contract types (non-renewable) will receive a 2 percent discount on their main contract premiums.

"This product was developed to meaningfully ease the financial burden of treatment costs for customers dealing with circulatory diseases," said Shin Myeong-yong, head of NH NongHyup Life's product development division. "We will continue to introduce products that provide real, practical benefits to our customers' lives."
