The People Power Party has designated Rep. Kim Seung-su as its next Daegu chapter chairman.
According to the party's Daegu chapter, Daegu-area lawmakers reached a consensus at a People Power Party workshop on Thursday to nominate Kim for the post.
The Daegu chapter has since launched the formal selection process, including a National Election Commission meeting and an official candidate registration announcement.
If Kim runs unopposed, the chapter plans to hold a steering committee meeting around Oct. 5 to formally approve the appointment.
Rep. Kwon Young-jin (Daegu Dalseo-B), a two-term lawmaker, had originally been set to take the post, but he withdrew his candidacy last month following a controversy over an alleged physical altercation, delaying the selection process by more than a month.
