Law firms Daeryuk Aju, Lin launch naming contest for merged firm, offering W10m in prizes

Law firms Daeryuk Aju and Lin, which are set to merge in October, announced Tuesday they are accepting public submissions for the name of their combined firm.

The contest runs from Monday through Thursday next week. Anyone may enter by submitting a proposed name along with its meaning and expected impact in any format via email.

A panel of internal judges will select the winning entry, with the result to be announced Sept. 15 on the websites of both firms. Prizes total 10 million won ($7,280), with 5 million won for first place, 3 million won for second and 2 million won for third.

Through the contest, the two firms said they hope to find a creative and original name that captures the strengths and identities of both organizations while reflecting the vision and forward-looking values of the combined firm.

If the merger goes through, it would be the largest in the history of South Korean law firms. The combined entity would rank sixth by number of domestic attorneys and eighth by revenue. Based on 2025 figures, the two firms posted combined revenue of 143.7 billion won — 102.7 billion won from Daeryuk Aju and 41 billion won from Lin.
