Support for residents hit by fire and heavy rain

HD Hyundai donated 100 million won ($73,000) in emergency disaster relief funds to residents of Ulsan's Dong-gu district, who have been struggling in the wake of a major fire and torrential rains.
The donation was pooled from three affiliates: HD Hyundai Heavy contributed 50 million won, while HD Hyundai Electric and HD Construction Equipment each contributed 25 million won.
Dong-gu was struck by a fire on Aug. 22 that destroyed 57 stalls at the Bangeojin Live Fish Center, and was hit again on Sunday by localized heavy rain that flooded shops and homes in the Bangeo-dong, Ilsan-dong and Hwajeong-dong areas.
Following the donation, HD Hyundai Heavy plans to send about 30 employee volunteers with equipment to the Bangeojin Live Fish Center fire site on Friday to clear debris and collect waste, helping affected merchants resume business.
HD Hyundai has a track record of responding to major disasters, having provided funds, personnel and equipment during the 2016 Taehwa River flooding in Ulsan and the 2019 large-scale wildfires in Gangwon Province.
"I sincerely thank the employees of HD Hyundai for extending a warm helping hand in our community's time of need," Dong-gu District Mayor Cheon Gi-ok said. "We will do our utmost to help affected residents and merchants return to their daily lives as quickly as possible."
