Safety platform using AI wins Prime Minister's Award at K-Digital Training Hackathon

An AI-powered workplace safety management platform that cross-checks daily inspection records and recommends relevant regulations has won the Prime Minister's Award at the K-Digital Training Hackathon.

The Ministry of Employment and Labor and the Korea Institute for Vocational Education and Training announced Friday that Team TIMON received the Prime Minister's Award at the eighth K-Digital Training Hackathon ceremony held the same day.

Team TIMON is made up of young participants in the K-Digital Training program at the Smart Human Resources Development Institute in the Gwangju and South Jeolla Province region. The platform they developed uses AI to cross-check the safety inspection records that industrial workers fill out daily and automatically points them to the relevant regulations.

The platform drew high marks for integrating on-site recordkeeping and accident response through a smartphone alone, without requiring any additional equipment, to support systematic safety management. It also includes a feature that guides workers through on-site response procedures when a workplace accident occurs.

The competition was divided into designated-topic and open-topic categories.

In the designated-topic category, Team Bammassil took the top prize, while four teams — Beyond Facade, CaLLabor, chimChak and AXIs — received excellence awards. In the open-topic category, CACADACA and RE: Work Lab were named co-winners of the top prize.

Employment and Labor Minister Kim Young-hoon attended the ceremony and presented the Prime Minister's Award and the Minister of Employment and Labor Award to the top-placing teams. He also held a roundtable with the winning young participants on youth employment challenges and the role of vocational training.

"I want to encourage the participants who identified problems around them and turned what they learned — including AI — into real results," Kim said. "We will continue to support young people through K-Digital Training so they can use AI to demonstrate their capabilities and potential."
