South Gyeongsang Province holds combined environment and resource recycling event in Yangsan

South Gyeongsang Province held a combined commemorative event marking World Environment Day and Resource Recycling Day on Friday at Hwangsan Park in Yangsan.

About 500 people attended, including Governor Park Wan-su, representatives of environmental groups, businesses, students and residents. South Gyeongsang Province, the South Gyeongsang Provincial Office of Education, Yangsan City and the South Gyeongsang Environment Foundation co-organized the event — the first time such a gathering has been held in the eastern part of the province.

The ceremony featured an environmental vision declaration and commendations for contributions to environmental conservation and resource recycling. Attendees were drawn to a mobile workshop bus called "Chameleon," operated by the provincial education office, as well as hands-on booths covering resource recycling, climate and ecology.

In his address, Park said this year had brought prolonged heat waves and drought, along with extreme rainfall damage in communities across the province. "Climate change is no longer a distant future problem — it is a reality threatening our daily lives and safety," he said.

Park urged residents to reduce single-use products and make recycling a daily habit, saying small individual actions could collectively transform the province's environment. "We will proactively respond to climate disasters such as heat waves and extreme rainfall to protect the lives and safety of our residents," he said.
