Man in disguise arrested for secretly filming women at Caribbean Bay changing room

A man in his 20s who disguised himself as a woman to enter the women's changing room at Caribbean Bay in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, and secretly filmed visitors has been arrested.

Yongin Dongbu Police Station said Saturday it had arrested the man, identified only as A, on an emergency basis and applied for an arrest warrant on charges of illegal filming using a camera and other devices and unlawful entry into a public facility for sexual purposes, both under the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Sexual Violence Crimes.

A is accused of entering the women's changing room at Caribbean Bay on two occasions — in mid-July and on July 30 — and covertly filming visitors using a mobile phone and a small recording device.

During both incidents, A disguised himself to conceal his gender, including by wearing a wig. On July 30 at around 4:40 p.m., he was wandering inside the women's changing room with his face covered by a black hat, mask and sunglasses and wearing a wig when a visitor and a staff member grew suspicious and confronted him.

When asked to show identification, A removed his sunglasses, revealing that he was male. He then fled the scene when surveillance of him briefly lapsed.

Police tracked his movements using closed-circuit television footage and other evidence and arrested him at his home in Seoul at around 4:30 p.m. Friday — more than 20 days after he fled.

A told investigators he filmed the victims out of curiosity and for his own viewing, according to police.

Police seized recording equipment and storage media from his home. They plan to conduct digital forensic analysis to determine whether additional illegally filmed material exists, and to establish the full extent of the recordings and whether any were distributed externally.
