Koreans truly love their beer, but outside of imports there are only a handful of flavorful options.
Or at least that used to be the case.
Places like Craftworks Taphouse in Itaewon, more microbrewery bars are yeasting up to offer choices outside of your typical Korean lager.
Han Ji-ae “When you drink other beers, they are very light but you don’t really notice an aftertaste, but these beers leave a strong finish.”
To brewmasters and supplier’s delight, public interest towards microbrew beers is rising fast.
Dan Vroon, General Manager at Craftworks Taphouse “What we found in the last year is that beer sales have doubled from 4 percent of alcohol sales to 8 percent and they are expected to double again in the next year.”
And with entry barrier laws into the Korean beer industry just changing, the future of beer looks promising.
Bill Miller, Beer Consultant for Craftworks Taphouse “In this economy, the demand for value is going to dictate that craft beer is going to be a really big item in the next couple years.”
As Korea enters a relatively new territory for beer, the options, combinations and suds are endless.
